This Estonian-Finnish Recovery Orientation training model was developed and piloted in Erasmus+ small scale cooperation project in Adult Education in the years 2023-2024. The project was named “Involvement in Recovery Orientation” (agronym I.R.O) and coordinated by Kakspy ry. The project partners were Niemikoti Foundation (FIN) and AS Hoolekandeteenused (EST). There have also been participants from Tallinn Mental health Center and Alvi ry (FIN)

 

The main goal of the project was to develop a training model aimed at professionals, which promotes the methodological use of recovery orientation among mental health workers. 

As it is said in the name of the project, the training model is based on the Recovery Orientation framework and especially CHIME framework at its core. 

 

Other project objectives were to:

  – Promote cooperation between Estonian and Finnish organisations and getting to know different cultures and people

 – In the recovery orientation approach, it is essential to promote the inclusion and social equality of service users and overall strengthen democracy -> whole project and its objectives promote the realisation of these essential themes of EU funding

 

The target group of the project were:

  1. Mental health professionals in Estonian and Finnish partner organisations

2. Users of mental health services and persons at risk of social exclusion

  3. Estonian and Finnish civil servants and political decision-makers 

 

The project work was divided into five work packages 

● Kick-off meeting 

● Best practices workshop 

● Training development 

● Training pilot 

● Feedback, evaluation and influence/Impact

 

The Recovery Orientation training model was developed in cooperation with Estonian and Finnish mental health professionals from the project organisations. Experts by experience who have their own experience of the recovery process were also involved in the development work; They brought essential experience to the development work from the perspective of users of mental health services. The theme of Expert by experience is presented in more detail in module 4. of the training.
